HISTORY Infant Jesus of Prague is a famous statue of infant Jesus located in the Church of Our Lady Victorious in Malá Strana, Prague. Its history started in the beginning of the 17th century when a statue of the Infant Jesus was brought into Bohemia by a Spanish Princess. This princess had been given the statue as a wedding gift by her mother, Maria Manriquez de Lara of Spain, and the statue eventually was given to the Discalced Carmelites in Prague. The statue was set up in the oratory of the monastery, and twice a day, special devotions to Jesus were performed before it. Disturbances in Bohemia due to the Thirty Years War brought an end to the special devotions, and on November 15, 1631, the army of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden took possession of the churches of the capital city of Bohemia. The Carmelite friary was plundered by the Lutheran Protestant Swedish, and the image of the Infant of Prague was thrown into a pile of rubbish behind the altar. Here it lay forgotten for se ...

Item for sale is a portrait of Jesus and Mary. It is a handmade persian carpet woven from silk and wool. Dimensions are: 60 Knot-70x100(cm)-2 3 x3 3 (ft). Placed in a stunning frame made out of Italian wood with anti-relective and UV-resistant glass to prevent damage from light. Carpet has been stitched to the frame to prevent damage. The art work has been framed by Hornsby framing in Sydney Australia (frame details and authenticity is on the frame back). Carpet has been made in TABRIZ- IRAN out of the finest quality wool and silk and is a true masterpiece. Second picture demonstrates the back of the art work as opened, but it is normally sealed in by it s wooden frame back. Item can be fully inspected before purchase. Location is Parramatta area in Sydney. This is a true work of art and would make a stunning and rare addition to any setting it is placed in. A wonderful Christmas gift.
